Converting to Asian beauty products? FOUNDATION VS. BB CREAM REVIEW

Hey everyone!

Ever thought of trying Asian skincare or beauty products? Well, I have... The thing is that I never actually followed through with trying any Asian products out of the 5 or so years I've been wearing makeup- until now!

If you're a regular Sune blog reader, you might be a little confused. Hasn't this entire blog been dedicated to Asian skincare and makeup reviews?? Yes! So, has Sune been lying to me about actually trying the reviewed products? No! Hi, my name is Jocelyn, and I am the new addition to the Sune family here in San Francisco. I confess- I've only ever used Western (American or European) beauty and skincare products my whole life until recently. It's not that I was disinterested in trying Asian products; I just never knew how to choose which products were right for me or where to purchase them. But now with a little (okay, A LOT of) help from Sune, I have all the information I need! So let's start with my first impressions of some products I've tried, shall we?

 Makeup:

I've always been a die-hard fan of foundation. I used Revlon Colorstay for the past 2 years and thought I would never have to try another face makeup product ever again. I thought I was set! The one thing I didn't like about the foundation, though, was that sometimes you could tell I was wearing face makeup. No matter how well the shade matched my skin tone, something about the product looked, dare I say, cake-y. The last thing you want is to look cake-faced. After all, makeup is supposed to enhance your natural beauty and make you look naturally flawless, not like you slapped on a layer of product to give you a different face. And, oh boy, it was even worse when the weather was hot. Not to sound un-ladylike, but I'm human, and I sweat. I also go to school in Los Angeles, so imagine that hot SoCal heat beating on your face- of course you're gonna sweat! Not the best look when you have streaky makeup from sweating it all off.

Enter stage left: Missha's Perfect Cover BB Cream.

I was a little skeptical about trying BB cream. It's supposed to have lighter coverage than foundation, and I liked the medium to heavy coverage of my beloved foundation. Additionally, I tried a few Western drugstore BB creams, and was seriously disappointed with the payoff of those products. I decided to give the Missha product a try anyway, and I was well impressed! The Perfect Cover BB Cream does give less coverage than a foundation (more light coverage, but you can build layers to achieve medium coverage), but it still does even out your skin tone. I don't have much acne; my skin concerns only revolve around redness, some hyper-pigmentation/acne scars, and an uneven skin tone, so there isn't much need for a full coverage foundation.

I was surprised that a product with such a light consistency could work so well! I've been wearing this product for about 10 hours and counting- so far it hasn't budged, dulled, or changed color. Pretty good in my opinion/1

My first impression:

I have beige skin with yellow/golden undertones. I tried No. 23. At first application, the product seemed a little too light for my face. I was worried I had tried the wrong shade on my face and was about to go through my day with a pale face and neck while the rest of my skin was more tan. Luckily, that's what the product is supposed to be like during the first few minutes! After a bit, the BB cream oxidizes and magically matches your skin tone (it's so cool to watch).

Missha's Perfect Cover BB Cream has a dewy finish, making your face look fresh and natural, like you don't have any makeup on your face at all. At the end of the day, the product turns more matte. The product even smells good! It's not a strong smell either. It's a light scent, and definitely better than any chemical scents I've noticed from some Western makeup products. If you're worried about whether or not the scent can cause irritation, you shouldn't! I haven't noticed any irritation and don't even notice the scent on my skin anymore.

Extra benefits of Missha's Perfect Cover BB Cream? SPF 42 (42!! I used to have to apply SPF 15 as a base under my foundation every day. Such a hassle). Moisturizing. Wrinkle care. Dermatologist tested for safety. And for those of you who enjoy skin lightening products- whitening. Don't be frightened by the word "whitening," though. Your face won't be altered an entire shade lighter or anything; this product just brightens your face a bit to make it look fresher and more full of life.

Overall, I'm happy with this product! And for $30, I think it's a steal for this multipurpose BB cream. Definitely something I would recommend to my friends and anyone else in search of face makeup that doesn't cake on or look unnatural. So, in the honest opinion of a girl who has been a devout patron of Western beauty all her life... I think I'm converted :O
